Well wishes from the Sunshine Committee at work. Many thanks to everyone for the well wishes and generous outpouring of love and support. Today was my first day without any gauze. I thought it would be uncomfortable with the brace rubbing directly on my skin, but so far so good. Only 3 more weeks until the next phase of recovery.
Obviously, Gromit shares my concern. Actually, Seth had a great run around the neighborhood. I followed alongside on foot, of course, cringing every time there was a bump in the pavement. We cannot afford to have two injured folks in this household!
Gromit chillin' in his favorite morning hangout (he hates when the grass is wet with dew).
Our stylish new rain barrel, a result of our winning bid on the Lowes auction this week. It has a planter in the top, so I moved my Wandering Jew in hopes it will perk up. I hope it rains soon so we can test it out!
Two clearanced wooden hangers from Ikea + two free prints from Walgreens + two removable Command hooks = an inexpensive & fun way to decorate the laundry room (which also happens to be Gromit's "apartment").
This really has been such a blessed week! I got my stitches out and a good report from my doctor, Seth bought a tablet PC for 75% off the retail price, we won TWO items on the Lowes charitable auction, and I found two pairs of practically brand new Merrells at the thrift store. Since everything looks better when Gromit's in the picture, I coerced him into modeling a pair for you. :)
I had the pleasure of transcribing some of the interviews for CPCC & the Global South, a blog chronicling the oral histories of diverse staff and students at CPCC. Above is a rough draft of the banner I'm designing for the blog.
Found this poem at one of the computers in the library.
Happy birthday to a very special loved one who needs to come for a visit soon!
One more from the Latta Plantation archives. In the year since this photo was taken, this lovely couple has had a baby, bought a house, and hung a master's degree on the wall. Congrats to the Millers on a pretty amazing year!
We met this pair on a trail at Latta Plantation last August.
A covered bridge in the Uwharries we visited this time last year. In case you're considering a day trip out that way, be forewarned about the lack of signage (and mountains, for that matter). We ended up on an ATV off-roading trail in the Mazda and literally had to back our way out.
Happiest birthday wishes to one of my nearest & dearest.
More of the folks on vacation.
Happiest birthday wishes to a jolly good fellow.
More of the 'rents on vacation. I remember playing in this fountain when I was a little girl. Maybe that's why I never seem to age...
Happy 2-year anniversary to Katie & Jerry!
The folks hanging out at the Moon Pie General Store on their vacation to SC.
I almost forgot to mention that I graduated yesterday. I had Seth check my transcript while we were in the hospital and was elated to see "Degree date: August 12, 2011" reflected. Click here to take a look at my complete online portfolio (my last requirement for graduation). Fortunately there is no summer ceremony, so I didn't miss anything. The photo above is borrowed from a former LIS student's blog. Since picture-taking is difficult with the use of one hand, you'll find me borrowing (aka cheating) quite a bit over the next week or so...
They took me down to the OR around 5:30 and began surgery promptly at 7:00 this morning. The last thing I remember asking the surgeon before I blacked out was, "Will the plate and screws you're putting in my wrist cause me to set off the metal detectors at the airport?" Because I travel so often, you know. We finally convinced the surgeon that I did not need to spend a second night in the hospital, and I was discharged around 4:00. Imagine I'm singing "We are the Champions" as Seth snapped this parting photo.
[I'm so sorry for not posting this past week, but I have a respectable excuse...]
admission to Skateland USA = $2.00
roller blades from thrift store = $5.00
visit to the ER + overnight stay in hospital + surgery = the bills are still pouring inSo I had the absolute best night roller skating, but I decided to try out my awesome new roller blades (pictured above) at the end of the night. It took me only one very imbalanced trip around the rink to determine I am not a roller-blader. As I was going to exit the rink to take them off, I busted it good, breaking my left wrist. So much for cheap date night.
When I grow up, I want to be just like daddy!
(He's really thinking, "Oh great, mom's done with her cleaning project so it's back to dressing me up again").
Is that a clean floor I see? This really has been a labor of love (please refer to crafty mess and craftroom pt. 2 for some perspective), but I am so happy to be organized again. This concludes the craftroom series...
A closer look...
Time to turn around. Less is more!
We're getting there (just don't turn around yet).
Double yikes.
Yikes.
126 shims + 3 cans of urban beige spray paint + LOTS of superglue/hot glue/wood glue = funky wall art. Check out Lowes' Creative Ideas for this and other DIY projects. This room has come a long way, by the way. Click here to see the beginnings of the renovation, here for a before & after of the almost-finished room, and click on the photo above for a peek at the lovely finished product!

So I'm cheating again by going back into the archives. This one was taken in August of last year in front of Seth's grandfather's barn. The adorable little pup is Brady, my in-laws' dog.
