out of the fog

Let's just go ahead and confess--I'm cheating again. This one was taken two years ago and features a gorgeous tree penetrating the Deep Gap fog. I promise I'll start taking new photos again soon. I wish the leaves were pretty here, but it looks like we're not going to have much color.

code orange

I'm cheating a bit with this one, which I took last October up near Mabry Mill. 'Tis the season (for pumpkins, not cheating, of course)!

bridge over troubled water

A covered bridge in the Uwharries we visited this time last year. In case you're considering a day trip out that way, be forewarned about the lack of signage (and mountains, for that matter). We ended up on an ATV off-roading trail in the Mazda and literally had to back our way out.

cheating

I've run out of pictures (and steam, for that matter). I'm cheating a bit in posting this one, which was taken on our way home from vacation last year, but I saw clouds that were every bit as cumulus and grass that was every bit as green this year. I didn't edit this one at all--the colors really were that vivid. I miss the mountains already!

under the boardwalk

We enjoyed a self-guided hike along the boardwalk trail in Congaree National Park. We also enjoyed free tent camping. Although the ice that formed on the inside of our tent left us damp and chilly, it was nothing a little hot cocoa and toe warmers couldn't fix.

eye eighty-five

Since much time was spent traversing the same stretch of I-85 today, I decided to risk life and limb on the second journey to take this image of a fleeting sunset around exit 55.
