I was listening to this story on the way home from work and found myself getting heated over the incandescent vs. LED debate (yes, bad pun intended). LED light bulbs cost $35-$50 each, and each household has an average of 50 sockets (yep, you do the math). We made the switch to CFLs a few years ago, but we still use incandescent bulbs in our clear fixtures because it's much more attractive. To be perfectly frank, it's worth the sacrifice of the $100 I would save over the life of the LED bulb (15-20 years) for me to have a pretty light bulb.

Hanging art on the walls really does make a house feel more like a home. I'm a little worried this wall is too busy, but after six years, I'm so excited to finally get to hang up our diplomas...

...and to finally frame and display my awesome gift (each letter of my name photographed in abstract) from my sister-in-law. I went here to find the letters for Seth's name. These photographs are licensed under Creative Commons, which means as long as I follow the creator's specifications, I can use them for free!

psychadelic kool-aid, part II

I will never look at Kool-Aid the same way again. It's interesting how lighting makes such a huge difference in color registration. In this picture, I just used the overhead kitchen lights, which created a yellowish tint. In the picture above, I had Seth hold an LED flashlight behind the pitcher, which made the colors a little more true to life. I was making grape Kool-Aid (red + blue = purple).
