fall photowalk

After the Hunger Games Final Event yesterday, we went to Lake Corriher to take some photos to help advertise our next photowalk at the library.  While I was taking the picture of the mossy rock, Seth saw a 4-point buck run down the bank and lay down in the stream!  When I moved upstream to take a picture, he got spooked and ran away.  Hope our photowalk is as eventful as the practice run!

the itsy bitsy spider

This not-so-itsy-bitsy spider has been hanging out at the library.
Be careful, little butterfly/moth!

bamboozled

Strolling through a bamboo garden was a peaceful way to get rid of some of the stress of this past week.

Enjoying the newest addition to my collection of drought-tolerant flora.  Thanks to my father-in-law for such a sweet and thoughtful gift!

chopstakes

My orchids are in full bloom!  I discovered a neat new purpose for chopsticks--they make lovely decorative stakes for indoor plants!

lacebark

Allee Lacebark Elm at the Arboretum. I know I'm cheating by using Asheville photos after our return, but I figured a cheater photo is better than no photo at all. :)

bone-sigh

We managed to sneak in a quick visit to the NC Arboretum before heading home from the NCCCLRA conference.
The bonsai (pronounced "bone-sigh") exhibit was my favorite. This is a miniature azalea and boxwood.

signs

We had such a fun weekend! We enjoyed our first trip to Banff Film Festival, bike riding along the river, and playing a wild game of Slapagories. Now we're on our way to the NCCCLRA conference in Asheville!

...he loves me not...he loves me!

I am far too practical and cheap to enjoy delivered bouquets, but I made an exception this time. Seth had a basket of daisies delivered to me at work on Friday for our anniversary. Daisies are my FAVORITE flowers--I love their simplicity, beauty, and longevity.

paved paradise

I enjoyed hanging out with former co-workers and one very special walking buddy & dear friend today. This photo is of one of a handful of trees that still have their foliage (it was in a parking lot, of all places).

terrarium treasure

Found this candle holder at a yard sale a few weeks ago and turned it into a terrarium centerpiece for the dining room table.

little miss sunshine

Well wishes from the Sunshine Committee at work. Many thanks to everyone for the well wishes and generous outpouring of love and support. Today was my first day without any gauze. I thought it would be uncomfortable with the brace rubbing directly on my skin, but so far so good. Only 3 more weeks until the next phase of recovery.

barrel of savings

Our stylish new rain barrel, a result of our winning bid on the Lowes auction this week. It has a planter in the top, so I moved my Wandering Jew in hopes it will perk up. I hope it rains soon so we can test it out!

on the rocks

Remember these clearanced beauties? They seem to be enjoying their new home amongst the rocks.
