little miss sunshine

Well wishes from the Sunshine Committee at work. Many thanks to everyone for the well wishes and generous outpouring of love and support. Today was my first day without any gauze. I thought it would be uncomfortable with the brace rubbing directly on my skin, but so far so good. Only 3 more weeks until the next phase of recovery.

cuidado, mi amor!

Obviously, Gromit shares my concern. Actually, Seth had a great run around the neighborhood. I followed alongside on foot, of course, cringing every time there was a bump in the pavement. We cannot afford to have two injured folks in this household!

Gromit chillin' in his favorite morning hangout (he hates when the grass is wet with dew).

barrel of savings

Our stylish new rain barrel, a result of our winning bid on the Lowes auction this week. It has a planter in the top, so I moved my Wandering Jew in hopes it will perk up. I hope it rains soon so we can test it out!

doggy decor

Two clearanced wooden hangers from Ikea + two free prints from Walgreens + two removable Command hooks = an inexpensive & fun way to decorate the laundry room (which also happens to be Gromit's "apartment").

pumped up kicks

This really has been such a blessed week! I got my stitches out and a good report from my doctor, Seth bought a tablet PC for 75% off the retail price, we won TWO items on the Lowes charitable auction, and I found two pairs of practically brand new Merrells at the thrift store. Since everything looks better when Gromit's in the picture, I coerced him into modeling a pair for you. :)

cpcc & the global south

I had the pleasure of transcribing some of the interviews for CPCC & the Global South, a blog chronicling the oral histories of diverse staff and students at CPCC. Above is a rough draft of the banner I'm designing for the blog.

meet the millers

One more from the Latta Plantation archives. In the year since this photo was taken, this lovely couple has had a baby, bought a house, and hung a master's degree on the wall. Congrats to the Millers on a pretty amazing year!

We met this pair on a trail at Latta Plantation last August.

bridge over troubled water

A covered bridge in the Uwharries we visited this time last year. In case you're considering a day trip out that way, be forewarned about the lack of signage (and mountains, for that matter). We ended up on an ATV off-roading trail in the Mazda and literally had to back our way out.

fountain of youth

More of the 'rents on vacation. I remember playing in this fountain when I was a little girl. Maybe that's why I never seem to age...

a li-berry-an at last

I almost forgot to mention that I graduated yesterday. I had Seth check my transcript while we were in the hospital and was elated to see "Degree date: August 12, 2011" reflected. Click here to take a look at my complete online portfolio (my last requirement for graduation). Fortunately there is no summer ceremony, so I didn't miss anything. The photo above is borrowed from a former LIS student's blog. Since picture-taking is difficult with the use of one hand, you'll find me borrowing (aka cheating) quite a bit over the next week or so...

we are the champions

They took me down to the OR around 5:30 and began surgery promptly at 7:00 this morning. The last thing I remember asking the surgeon before I blacked out was, "Will the plate and screws you're putting in my wrist cause me to set off the metal detectors at the airport?" Because I travel so often, you know. We finally convinced the surgeon that I did not need to spend a second night in the hospital, and I was discharged around 4:00. Imagine I'm singing "We are the Champions" as Seth snapped this parting photo.
